7# ..... 8 BBx. * Art Workshops in Guatemala - Rent Our House Description

Rent Our Lovely Home

Well, I have two children to support - and even though I love my business, it does not exactly make us a lot of money. So, we rent out our Antigua house when we are not in Guatemala to help make ends meet. It is a perfect set up if you have children. Obviously, I have two of my own (now ages 10 and 15). What I particularily like about it is that we are located on a small, dead end street. So all the children play out in the street - are there are lots of them !! We are the only foreigners on the block, so it provides a nice Guatemalan family experience.

Our house is located across the street from the church San Francisco, one of the oldest churches in Antigua. This is where Santo Hermano Pedro (who recently became a saint) is buried. It's a colonial style home, which means it has an inner courtyard, (with some great climbing trees) with two bedrooms. One bedroom is quite large and has an attached bathroom with a big bathtub. The other bedroom is smaller. There is a third bedroom that has the washing machine, sewing machine and a large table I use when that wonderful massage therapist - Maria - comes to my home for a reasonable price. (I'll leave her phone number, she only speaks Spanish however.) Then there is a large kitchen, combo living room/playroom and we mostly live in the corridor. (This picture was taken in our corrider). I do have to say that I don't own this house. I rent it, and it is not kept up as well as if I owned it. However, we are happy here and it is a nice place to live for a reasonable price. If you want a really nice, new updated place, you can find them for about $1200/month.

Also, you should know that my car is in the garage, so there isn't room if you have a car. AND, you should know that our cat, Brocoli, sometimes stays in Antigua. He is fat, happy, very mellow and great with kids.

The house is available to rent by day, week or month, although of course I try to rent it for longer periods of time. The price is $650 / month, $200/ week or $45 / day. I will consider charging less for just one person. This includes electricity, (which is expensive here) water, garbage pickup and domestic help. Our domestic helper, Monica Fuentes, is a lovely person and works mornings Monday - Friday while we are gone, (a great way to practice your Spanish !!) Her services are included in the rent price. It's pretty easy to get used to someone else cleaning the house, cooking and helping with the kids, let me tell you !! You may rent my cell phone (with a $40 deposit) but the land line isn't available. Too many bad experiences with unpaid phone bills, I'm afraid.

CURRENT AVAILABILITY -- To check availability, first look at our workshops schedule. If we have classes going on in Guatemala, that means we are here and the house isn't available. It is generally available January, early February, May, June, early July, August, September, til mid October, end November (sometimes) and December.

*** So it is currently available from May until mid July 2009 when we return for summer classes. And then again after that. As always, best to check with me. Also, FYI I'm not very good at updating this page.

If you are interested, shoot me an email and we'll talk, ok? fourre@artguat.org
