fountain in park FEARLESS ART!!

Join  artist  Kim Grant  and capture the
SPIRIT OF GUATEMALA

21 - 30 March 2012

With Kim as your teacher and artistic guide,

you'll explore a variety of new mixed-media techniques

and learn how to create your own personal art and art journals with paint, collage, image transfers,

plexiglass and metal.

This is the perfect opportunity for a beginner with an imagination and desire to learn, to create something new and exciting - - - and have fun!  More seasoned artists will pick up new skills and techniques and discover ways to incorporate them into their own work.

This is a playful class, filled with demonstrations, and where you can freely experiment with newly learned techniques, broaden your horizons and free your mind.

 Imagine yourself.......

** Creating art while overlooking mystical Lake Atitlan. You'll be painting and creating as the sun sets behind the volcanos, while nearby, indigenous women still gather at the lakeside to wash their clothes on rocks.  You'll never find better artistic inspiration !!  (This view of the San Pedro volcano is from the Posada's gardens).

We spend three nites here at Posada Santiago, where you'll learn numerous techniques to cross artistic boundaries of mixed media -- ie how to use innovative paint and collage techniques, transfers, found- objects, metals, plexiglass, string and wax (just to name a few).

We base out of old colonial Antigua, with its cobblestone streets and centuries old ruins covered w bouganvilla, where your art will be inspired by Guatemala's colorful and exotic surroundings.  You will utilize interesting items found at market - - - fabulous local handwoven fabrics, beads and milagros.

*** And not to be missed !!  Antigua's famous and incredibly moving Sunday Lenten processions (this procession coming out of the main Cathedral).  You'll not only see 'alfombras' - carpets made of sawdust, flowers and pine needles that families design and create in the streets in front of their homes, but as a class we'll create one!!  (Images: Fountain, Calla Lily Lake Atitlan and Procession from the Cathedral by Liza Fourre)

Come experience days and evenings filled with learning, sharing and camaraderie. Many people come on their own, butkim books image leave after a memorable week with not only art you can proudly frame for your walls or include in your art journal, but new friends and travel companions that may last a lifetime !!

"Kim is great -  very congenial, patient, flexible and open-minded. The class met my expectations and I can't think of anything that needs to be done for improvement.  Liza, thanks to you and your assistants for all the hard work, patience, flexibility and good humor.  I think you do a great job of exposing/educating attendees about Guatemalan culture. And that ís equally important as the art class we come down there for."   Kathy Humphrey  10/05
